Vyrus 986 M2

pura follya tecnologica – pure technological madness

Vyrus Motori is a small boutique motorcycle manufacturer located in the “La Terra dei Motori” or The Land of Motors – the region of Italy that is the home of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Maserati and for motorcyclists – Ducati and Bimota.  Ascanio Rodorigo, principal of Vyrus, started his career within the Bimota factory working on Bimota Tesis – Bimota’s landmark hub-steered motorcycles.  To satisfy his creative urge, he left Bimota to design, build and race motorcycles.  After several seasons, he stopped racing and began Vyrus to return his attention to the hub-steered motorcycle concept.  At the 2011 Motor Bike Expo in Italy, Vyrus Motori introduced the VYRUS 986 M2 to the world, and the response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic.  This was a truly innovative, far-sighted design that was bristling with new solutions to many motorcycle systems – steering, suspension, chassis, aerodynamic bodywork, exhaust – that were not only clever in their own right, but brilliantly combined into a seamlessly integrated vehicle.  The engineers and designers at Vyrus designed the 986 M2 to be the most innovative motorcycle for racing in the World Grand Prix Moto2 category.  The bike combines lightness (323 lbs.) with power (120 bhp from a stock Honda CBR 600RR engine to 140 bhp with readily available HRC components) and handling (Vyrus’ innovative hub-steering chassis) to produce an exceptional racing package.  After two years of on-track development, the 986 M2 is in limited production and available with a lighting kit for street use.  All bespoke Vyrus parts are fabricated in Italy and Bimota Spirit paints, assembles, tests and delivers Vyruses exclusively in the USA.

Bimota Spirit has completed three Vyrus 986 M2s.  Scroll down to see descriptions and images of our creations.

Carbon Black

All Vyrus 986 M2 bodywork is of the highest quality, lightest carbon fiber available today.  To celebrate this exotic material, the Carbon Black is finished in many coats of clear paint with some matte black panels to add sophistication and minimal red details for accents.  The frame and all alloy parts are black anodized.  The wheels are forged aluminum and the brakes are Brembo RCS masters with upgraded Brembo HP billet calipers.  The suspension is Ohlins TTX technology at both ends.  The engine, fuel-injection and electrics are production Honda CBR600RR.  This 986 M2 was the first one constructed in the USA and was taken to a local racetrack for suspension development.  Following the test, we worked with the Andreani Group (Ohlins suppliers to World Superbike and Supersport Racing teams) to further refine the settings.  Having ridden this bike on the track I can certainly say: “this is one of the most fun motorcycles that I have ever ridden on a racetrack!  It is fantastic!”

Silver/Blue/Carbon

The Silver/Blue/Carbon is painted in very fine metallic silver with blue accents and an exposed clear-coated carbon fiber band running from the air snorkel to the tail.  The frame and all alloy parts are clear anodized.  The wheels are forged aluminum and the brakes are Brembo RCS masters with monoblock calipers.  The engine, fuel-injection and electrics are production Honda CBR600RR producing 118 bhp in a vehicle that weighs only 323 pounds – smooth, quick-revving power in a race-bred chassis that flicks from side-to-side instantaneously and doesn’t dive under extreme braking.  Beyond performance, the 986 M2 bodywork is beautifully sculptural and perfectly contrasted with an exposed frame and suspension that can only be described as “mechanical art.”

Tri-colore

The Tri-colore (three colors of the Italian flag) is beautifully finished in Pearlescent white, Italian red, and Metallic green – with pin striping and knee panels clear-coated to let the natural carbon fiber show through.  The frame and all alloy parts are clear anodized.  The wheels are forged aluminum and the brakes are Brembo RCS masters with monoblock calipers.  The engine, fuel-injection and electrics are production Honda CBR600RR for reliability and simplicity of operation – touch the starter button and this 986 M2 fires to life, screaming through its bespoke Vyrus exhaust system.  Four-cylinder 600cc power and extreme light weight combine for an exhilarating riding experience.  Beyond performance, the 986 M2 is stunning to look at even on cold rainy days!
